After I finished this illustration, I found out that there is a gender-swapped Russian version of The Frog Prince fairy tale. Toads are so much more fun to draw than frogs, though.
A few recent contour drawings of a familiar subject.
I do them every day to warm up but don’t always share them.
I like this string of sketches together.
They aren’t pure contour drawings, though. I lifted my pencil off the page a few times. Don’t tell anyone.
Before I started this illustration, all I knew about harpies was that they were monsters with women’s heads and birds’ bodies. Now I know that a city pigeon harpy makes a lot of sense. According to Wikipedia, harpies “steal food from their victims while they are eating…” and “Their name means ‘snatchers’.”
